BMW 3 Series Coupe - Model

For my Studio Animation Production module we have been split into groups of six and tasked with creating an advertisement for a BMW 3 Series Coupe. The purpose of this module is to prepare us for working in a professional studio environment.

My main role in the group is the realisation of the car itself. My main tasks include research and referencing, modelling, texturing, and rigging the car. I have been aided by one of my team mates, who has modelled the wheels, and is currently modelling the dashboard.

At this stage I have completed the car model and have begun the texturing process.

4th year Character Animation

Computer Animation 4th Year Project from Craig Russell on Vimeo.

This is my final submission for my 4th year Character Animation module.

My primary aim for this module was to establish a professional workflow which I could utilise throughout my career to guide my production process and ensure the maximum quality in my work.

Key elements of my development include; maximising the appeal of character and story, a strong understanding and application of posing, blocking and clean-up, and the effective application of timing.

Unfortunate circumstances meant that I was unable to complete my animation for the deadline specified. As a result a large part of the clean-up stage had to be cut short. I hold it to my credit however that I was able to point out all of the areas where my lecturer felt the animation could be improved. I plan to go back and complete this animation fully once my university course comes to an end.

Here are the models of my three characters for my final 4th year project.

Virtual Environment

These are stills from my 4th year Virtual Environment module. The model is based on a prefabricated detached house, and includes a range of household furnishings and objects.

It was during this module that I first began looking at lighting techniques in a 3D environment, as my previous work has been mostly character or modelling based. This gave me an excellent opportunity to experimented with various lighting set ups.

This module reafirmed my confidence in my modelling skills, highlighted a need for improvement in my surfacing ability, and provided me with a solid introduction to lighting.
